About

Anastasiya Gutnik, a Russian-born multimedia artist based in Portland, Oregon, explores themes of place, transience, and the interconnectedness of the human and nonhuman through her work. Utilizing primal materials like soil, salt, ash, and bones, her installations delve into their physical properties, cultural meanings, and ecological impacts.

She received her BFA in painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art, then moved to New York City, where she spent numerous years participating in exhibitions at galleries like Local Project, A.I.R Gallery, Plaxall Gallery, and many other spaces. She has participated in several residencies worldwide, including the New York Studio Residency Program in New York City, La Wayaka Current in Chile, Mudhouse in Crete, and GlogauAIR in Berlin. She completed her MFA in 2023 at the University of Oregon, and her thesis installation Memory of Returns was exhibited at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum in Eugene, Oregon. She has received funding for her work from FIGMENT Project, the Queens New Work Grant, Lane Arts Council, and the Regional Arts & Culture Council. She is represented by Blackfish Gallery, where she is a collective member.
